The hyperfinite signal: A new concept for modelling dynamic systems

Jean-Paul Frachet · AIP conference proceedings · 1998

The notion of hyperfinite signal enables to represent the information we can get from an intelligent observation of the temporal evolution of physical parameters characterizing the behaviour of a dynamic—or reactive, or anticipatory—system. In spite of its totally discrete type, we gain a formalism similar to the one of continuous values evolving in a continuous time, so that the behaviour of the system can be modelled by algebraic or differential equations. The hyperfinite signal theory relies on an original model of time and discrete values, using non standard analysis and finite field theory. In this paper, we focus on a subtype allowing the modelling of discrete events systems.
