Large capacity gas regulators are reviewed in this paper. The basic components of the regulator are discussed, and include a restrictive device, measuring device and a positioning element. All regulators in the gas industry can be placed into one of two basic categories: self-operated or pilot-operated. Since large volumes of gas are involved the monetary loss could be considerable if the regulator is not of proven quality and reliability. Accuracy is stressed so that chart records may be properly interpreted. The regulator should be able to perform with only scheduled maintenance for downtime.
