Digital Microscopy Imaging Technologies - A Review

Manveen Kaur Jawanda · International journal of dental clinics · 2010

New avenues of research are opening in biological and medical fields. As research demands become more specialized and diversified, biological microscopes must offer the capabilities to meet these needs. Gone are the days of researchers stooped over the eye pieces and struggling with complicated settings. The digital enabled microscope, have completely transcended the concept of a traditional microscope. Everything, from observation through image capturing up to data communications over the network, is operated by a series of simple mouse clicks allowing the pathologist to concentrate on the image on the screen. With the introduction of digital imaging, pathology is undergoing a digital transformation. In the field of pathology, digital images are being used for telepathology, automated screening of Pap test slides, training and education (e.g. online digital atlases), and proficiency testing.
