We present a new technique for the study of transition in convectively unstable flows that employs nonlinear partial differential equations of parabolic type based on the slow change of the basic-flow and the disturbance velocity profiles, wavelength, and growth rate in the streamwise direction.Solutions comparable in accuracy to direct Navier-Stokes simulations can be obtained with a marching procedure utilizing a small fraction of the computational cost.
