Passengers queue length measurement

The European CROMATICA (CROwd MAnagement with Telematic Imaging and Communication Assistance) project investigated methods to improve public transport quality of service. Among the developed systems, automatic measurement of passenger queue length was required. This article presents an automatic measurement of passenger queue length based on image analysis. The algorithm developed is robust to contrast changes and is able to work even under low contrast. It is based on a level lines image representation, and on a study of the effects of contrast changes on them. This algorithm has been tested on real airport situations.
