System Design Considerations for True Digital Audio Power Amplifiers

This report describes the conversion of pulse-code-modulated (PCM) to pulse-widthmodulated (PWM) signals using Texas Instruments TDAA modulation devices (TAS50xx) and signal amplification using Texas Instruments family of H-bridge output stages (TAS51xx). It includes a detailed discussion of power supply voltage requirements, output circuit filters, and thermal dissipation. An example stereo application shows how to select various components and demonstrates TDAA measurements and what to look for in the results.
