Comparative study of finite word length effects in digital filter design via the shift and delta transforms

In this paper the influence of finite word length in high-speed digital signal processing and control is considered. It is shown that the usual shift operator formulation is inferior to alternative formulation based on the delta operator. The analysis is illustrated by an example.
