Commercial SATCOM subarchitecture assessments and initial concepts

This document reviews existing and planned, domestic and international commercial SATCOM assets for each of the following 3 time frames: Current (1985), mid-term (1986-1991) and far-term (1992-2000). In addition, current DoD use of these assets is summarized and assessed. Summary descriptions of some major mid-term DoD systems, networks and architectures are given. Alternative far-term concepts for the use of commercial SATCOM as a complement to MILSATs in providing additional service and robust connectivity are also presented.
