QUICKSILVER: A 3D, electromagnetic, PIC code

D. B. Seidel, Mark Linden Kiefer, R. S. Coats, A.L. Siegel, Jeffrey P. Quintenz · 1987

QUICKSILVER is a multitasked, finite difference, 3-dimensional, fully relativistic, electromagnetic, particle-in-cell code currently under development at Sandia National Laboratories. It has been developed for current and near-term supercomputers, such as the Cray X-MP/416, which are characterized by large central memories and multiple processors. All grid-related quantities are stored in central memory and particle information may be stored out of memory if there is not sufficient central memory. The problem geometry is generated with a preprocessor and the simulation results are examined with a postprocessor. This report describes pre- and post-processing capabilities of Quicksilver and discusses algorithm development.
