Combined predictive and multiresolution schemes for speckle reduction in radar images

This paper deals with the speckle reduction in radar images using predictive, multiresolution and thresholding techniques. The schemes adopted are based on a "judicious" combination of these techniques. In fact, by analysing the performances of each technique separately, it is possible to compensate the limitations imposed by the predictive technique and the multiresolution/thresholding technique. Two mixed schemes are developed, when compared to separated techniques, they are proved to be powerful tools in term of speckle reduction and contour preservation.
