Hyuk-Jin Yeo, Jin-Hyuk Chung, Ik-Ki Kim · Journal of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers · 2005

This study aims to test efficacy of the congestion indexes used in developed countries when applying them in Korea. To pursue the issues, we have conducted two experiments. Firstly, we have simulated the traffic volume using four-step procedures to test congestion indexes whether they can explain level of congestion in metropolitan areas in Korea. Secondly, we have collected data in Daejeon metropolitan area with the manner suggested in NCHRP Report 398. The congestion index evaluated form data collected in this study offers acceptable level of accuracy in consideration with results come from simulation. The findings in this study shows that the sampling method is the most important factor to evaluate level of congestion in a city.
