Abstract — We describe some of the issues inherent in running real-time collaborative environments in heterogeneous and fragmented networks, showing how these issues are only partially addressed by both IETF and Grid standards. We propose a new architecture, based on a peer-to-peer overlay IP network to abstract the complexity and heterogeneity of the underlying network.
