Remote Sensing Systems

Madhavendra Richharia, Leslie David Westbrook · 2010

This chapter expands the features of the following systems: two commercial imaging systems. namely GeoEye and DigitalGlobe. Remote sensing systems are generally owned and operated by large organizations supported by governments. Various commercial imaging systems capable of delivering high quality images tailored to specific requirements of customers are in place. The chapter explains the meteorological system called Eumetsat, which provides meteorological and environmental measurements over the European region while also contributing to a global meteorological system. A well-known land resource monitoring system called Landsat are focused in the chapter. Land observation satellites are used for land resource survey, and hence their sensors are optimized to monitor land features like vegetation, rocks, urban areas, etc. The Landsat Ground Network (LGN) consists of multiple communications sites that provide S-band and X-band communication support to the Landsat 7 mission. Controlled Vocabulary Terms remote sensing; satellite broadcasting
