Improving the performance of mobile ad-hoc routing

Varun Khanna · 2003

Dynamic source routing (DSR) is a popular protocol for mobile ad-hoc routing and data forwarding over wireless networks. We have devised innovative mechanisms that improve both the routing and data forwarding performance of DSR over IEEE 802.11 WLAN. Our mechanisms involve intelligent use of underlying MAC protocol layer information to provide faster routing and to reduce the routing traffic, as compared to the original DSR mechanisms. We have also improved data transfer throughput by improving the MAC protocol by adding mechanisms that result in faster data forwarding, reduced collisions, and elimination of explicit ACK traffic.
