Implementing and optimising ΓCMC

/spl Gamma/CMC is an abstract machine for the efficient implementation of lazy functional languages. /spl Gamma/CMC transfers the control of the execution flow to C, as much as possible, to take advantage of the extremely low costs of procedure calls in modern RISC architectures. This produced a substantial improvement in performance if compared with its predecessors. The paper describes a number of optimisations introduced to our implementation of /spl Gamma/CMC. Performance figures to a set of benchmark programs quantify the gains obtained.>
