A hierarchical multiple access protocol for MAN's
Shun‐Zheng Yu, Guangzhao Zhang · 2005
A hierarchical multiple access protocol (HIMAP) is proposed for metropolitan area networks to achieve hign performance, suit multilevel architecture of networks, and support interconnection with LAN's. Several subsets of stations are assumed along the network trunk. A subset can be a branch or a local area network interconnected to it. Subsets access the trunk according to implicit token protocol. Stations access the channel with intra-subset protocol when the subset is polled, for which reservation CSMA/CD is considered as an example in this paper. HIMAP is completely distributed and less sensitive to network size. It is fair -for all stations, and yields bounded delay for real-time traffic. Finally, analysis and simulation results are presented.
