In this paper, we propose a novel routing algorithm, called the Up-Down routing algorithm, which first constructs the tree topology based on distance. Then, the proposed routing algorithm adjusts Down-link Transmission Range(DTR) and Uplink Transmission Range(UTR) determined by the two different phases, tree setup and data gathering, to adapt the specific communication pattern. Simulation shows that the Up-Down routing algorithm can energy-efficiently construct the tree topology based on the two different phases. Also, the results show that the Up-Down routing algorithm has the improved energy efficiency and extended network lifetime.
