Aesthetics as an Attribute to Usability: a Critique of (Some) Previous Works

A distinct new trend in usability research is the identification of Beauty as an attribute of interaction. The relationship betweenaesthetics, usability and user engagement is being researched by leadingresearchers including Norman, Tractinsky and Sutcliffe. In this paper wesurvey the experimental work carried out and develop a critique of the methods that have so far been applied. The paper argues that a toonarrow focus on engineering aspects of aesthetics has impacted the scope and success of experiments to date. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
