Peer-to-Peer Execution of BPEL Processes.

Weihai Yu · 2007

Abstract. The adoption of WS-BPEL for dynamic composition of web services by a large number of small businesses calls for a peer-to-peer approach for conducting the execution of processes. Furthermore, peer-to-peer executions are inherently more scalable and reliable. We propose an approach to peer-to-peer execution of BPEL processes. The approach is of continuationpassing style, where continuations, or the reminder of executions, are passed along with messages for process execution. Two continuations are associated with an execution: a success continuation and a failure continuation. Recovery plans for processes are automatically generated at runtime and attached to failure continuations. A prototype is implemented. Keywords: WS-BPEL, web services composition, peer-to-peer, workflow, continuation.
