This chapter is about the LED displays. The basic principles of an LED are described and its connection to a microcontroller output port is explained. The need for a current limiting resistor is explained and it is shown how to calculate the value of the required resistor. 7-segment displays are important and are used extensively in applications where it is required to display numeric data. The operating principles of these displays are explained. Multiplexed displays are used in applications requiring multi digit displays. The chapter explains how to connect single digit displays in order to obtain multiplexed multi digit displays. Finally, the use of single digit and multi digit multiplexed alphanumeric displays are explained.
