PLD implementation of control algorithms: design and validation [power electronics]

After an introduction to the new features of programmable components, the paper discusses the application of such devices to power electronics. The role of these components in the design of a modulator is introduced, considering both a simple hardware solution and a mixed hardware and software solution. A design methodology is presented and a detailed description of a validation process based on high level Petri nets is given. Some application examples complete the discussion.
