Adaptive Fuzzy Control

John H. Lilly · 2010

This chapter shows how adaptive fuzzy controllers can be constructed. With the methods discussed in the chapter it is possible to form tracking and model reference controllers for unknown nonlinear systems. Adaptive controllers are divided into two categories: direct and indirect. The indirect adaptive control strategy involves identifying the plant and simultaneously constructing a control law based on this identification. The direct control approach directly calculates the controller parameters without taking the extra step of identifying the plant. The chapter discusses indirect adaptive tracking and model reference controllers with the identified model in the form of a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy system with input-output difference equation consequents, although other forms of consequents are also possible. It also discusses indirect adaptive feedback linearization in which the fuzzy model is in Mamdani form. The chapter illustrates an example of direct adaptive fuzzy tracking control. Controlled Vocabulary Terms fuzzy control; linear feedback control systems; tracking
