Frequency and Availability in the Encoding of Spontaneous Speech
Neil McK. Mercer · Language and Speech · 1976
A corpus of dialogic spontaneous speech was analysed with reference to the word-sequences which follow hesitations occurring within phonemic classes. The average frequencies of occurrence of the words in such sequences were found to be directly related to their number. The implications of these results for models of the speech production system are considered.
