Optimal Traffic-to-Pilot Power Ratio in CDMA Uplink

Yi Zhang, Jian Gu, Dacheng Yang, Zhen Liu · 2006

Dedicated pilot is used in CDMA uplink to facilitate coherent reception. Traffic-to-Pilot power ratio (T/P) is an important system parameter that determines system performance and QoS. Previous work has obtained the optimal T/P for CDMA uplink through simulations. In this paper, we propose a theoretical method to achieve the optimal T/P that minimizes the average total uplink transmission power (i.e., pilot plus traffic channel power) of a mobile station with the given link quality. Through the analyses, this paper obtains that the optimal T/P is independent of channel profile in the case of low velocity. At the same time, the optimal T/P has a small variation over different environments
