RF Channel Performance Prediction

Propagation models have evolved over the years as wireless deployments and the density increased, but not enough to be used for 4G deployments. Traditionally, propagation models require different parameters for each sector, but this was overcome by the use of fractional morphology. The use of large bandwidth increases spectral efficiency in terms of data throughput. This chapter describes the two main techniques for reducing this interference in broadband networks. Network resources are items that are available in limited numbers or denominations and thus have to be carefully distributed to network elements. Resource examples are varied and include: OFDM carriers, antenna tilts, handover thresholds and power thresholds. The chapter analyzes the optimization and planning of these resources and presents a summary of each optimization step. Availability defines a percentage of area or time during which a specific service is supported, with the desired quality, by a wireless network. Controlled Vocabulary Terms broadband networks; OFDM; radiofrequency interference
