A generic modelling approach to requirements capture in the domain of air traffic control

David L. Bolton, Sara Jones, David Till, David Furber, S. Green · 1992

The work described has been carried out as part of the GMARC (generic modelling approach to requirement capture) project which has been concerned with the use of generic or domain models in requirements elicitation and specification. It arises from a particular concern with the provision of knowledge-based support for the use of such models. The basic principle adopted is that the use of knowledge about the domain in which a new system or application is required can considerably facilitate the process of capturing and specifying the requirements for that system. It is contended that such knowledge can be reused a number of times in the development of successive specifications and that the relative advantages of using the approach proposed in terms of time and cost savings might therefore increase over time. The authors set out the basic ideas of the proposed approach to requirements capture. They then consider the application of the approach in the domain of air traffic control. Some problems and issues for future research are identified.
