In Dutch constructions with two objects, each of these can be either nominal or prepositional, resulting in various two-object combination patterns: NP NP, NP PP, PP NP, PP PP. However, for two objects to occur in one and the same construction, they have to be semantically and hierarchically distinct. This paper focuses on two-object constructions where at least one of the objects is prepositional. We investigate whether facts of word order reveal anything about the hierarchical relation between the objects of such constructions. In addition, there is a brief exploration of the distribution of three-place predicates over homogeneous and/or mixed two-object constructions.
