A Study on the Transmission Performance Improvement of Transmitting Site Diversity for Continuous Road-to-Vehicle Communication Systems

When road-to-vehicle communication systems are employed for continuous communication with vehicles, a problem can be encountered with the shadowing of large-size vehicles that blocks the communication path. When the shadowing occurs, the transmission quality is degraded because the received power on the vehicle falls rapidly. This article reports on a study of the road-to-vehicle communication system that incorporates transmitting site diversity for reducing the shadowing rate. The rice fading channel model is applied to the road-to-vehicle communication system. Through computer simulation, the study showed that the shadowing rate and frame error rate (FER) of the transmitting site diversity are a tenth less than that of single transmissions.
