A software architecture for a next generation switching system

Alex Adams, J. Bunch · 2003

Describes the internal software architecture and illustrates how it satisfies the primary goals of rapid introduction of services, flexibility, modularity, and reliability. The authors argue that the software architecture must be complementary to rapidly changing software-based services. They conclude that the successful and timely deployment of network technologies, such as the integrated services digital network (ISDN), Intelligent Network/2 (IN/2), and Open Network Architecture (ONA), depends on how well these goals are achieved by the software architectures of the next generation switching systems.>
