Standardisation Tools for Negotiating Interoperability Solutions

Tiago Santos, Carlos Coutinho, Adina Cretan, Miguel Ferro de Beca, Ricardo Jardim‐Gonçalves · 2013

Enterprises are struggling to remain competitive in a rough economy that is facing serious difficulties, together with a globalised environment (and competition). In order to counter this trend, enterprises and organisations are forced to develop new strategies by searching, facing and acting towards, not just for new business opportunities, but also to new collaboration opportunities. This chapter explains briefly agents and the rules engine technologies and explains more deeply the prototype, from the design to the implementation, and shows some results taken from simulations of real world scenarios. It presents some ideas to future work on an industrial scenario prototype, and the potential of standardisation of the proposed approach. The chapter establishes negotiation as a standardised approach for dealing with the determination of solutions for enterprise interoperability, and rules/rules engines in particular as the standard means to develop and establish dynamic knowledge about past negotiation for the future ones.
