2.3.3 Fuzzy Sets as Requirements Antecedents
Ronald S. Carson · INCOSE International Symposium · 2000
Abstract Arguments for requirements completeness have relied on the notions of mutually exclusive and universally complete antecedents to ensure complete requirements. The world of hardware tolerances suggests that mutual exclusivity and completeness may not be simultaneously achievable in realistic systems. The discipline of “fuzzy logic” does not require such mutual exclusivity, and the achievement of universally complete antecedents is inherent in the methodology. We show that the use of fuzzy logic methods is more appropriate for design rather than requirements definition.
