jGRASP: teaching hard concepts with intuitive visualizations: conference workshop

II James H. Cross · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2008

jGRASP is a lightweight IDE that provides automatic generation of visualizations that directly support the teaching of major concepts in CS1 and CS2. These concepts include control structures, classes, interfaces, objects, inheritance and polymorphism, composition, and data structures. The integrated visualizations are intended to overcome the mismatch between what we want to teach and what most IDEs provide in the way of support for learning. The tutorial/workshop will include tutorials with example programs to demonstrate how instructors can improve the learning and programming experience of their students with jGRASP. Participants are encouraged to bring programs from their own courses. jGRASP is freely available (http://www.jgrasp.org/).
