The NSF CSEMS grant program: our experience with the proposal process and program execution

In 2001, the CIS Department at Saint Vincent College, a small liberal arts college in southwestern Pennsylvania, applied for and received a CSEMS (Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarships) grant from the NSF. The CSEMS grants aim to support students majoring in the areas of Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics with the ultimate goal of strengthening the future of the high technology workforce. This article relates our experience with the proposal process, what we believe strengthened our proposal, issues we have had to deal with in terms of program execution and what we have learned along the way.
