Technologies For Ultra-low-power Memory
J. Weisenstein, Nicky Lu, M. Winston · 1991
One of the fastest-growing applications for ultra-low-power memory technologies is in the portable computing marketplace. The memory organization of today's portable computers is largely borrowed from desktop architecture. Portables typically contain 0.5 to 2.0MB of system memory, usually DRAM, and 20 to 40MB of mass storage, typically rotating magnetic media. These memory types are perfectly acceptable for desktop computing which plugs into the wall outlet, but for portable computing, they cause system design compromises.
