A high accuracy predictive logarithmic motion estimation algorithm for video coding

A new logarithmic block-matching algorithm for motion estimation is proposed. The algorithm exploits the motion correlation of spatially neighboring blocks to reduce the possibility of an inappropriate choice in the search's first stage and thus alleviate the local minimum phenomenon. Compared to existing fast block-matching algorithms, this method achieves significant improvements in both estimation accuracy and performance reliability while maintaining comparable computational complexity and regularity.
