Notations and Mathematical Preliminaries

The purpose of this chapter is to familiarize the reader with the mathematical notations, definitions and theorems that are used in wavelet literature. Important mathematical concepts are briefly reviewed. We recommend that readers return to the relevant sections of this chapter if unfamiliar mathematical concepts present themselves during the course of later chapters.
