Weaving Java threads: some student-friendly examples
S. Krishnaprasad · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2004
Large, complex, and highly interactive software applications are inherently concurrent with many processes competing and cooperating with each other. Multithreaded programming is one way to implement concurrent applications. In this paper we present some introductory student-friendly examples of multithreaded programming in Java. Independent console/graphical windows are used to depict thread activities to help the student better appreciate concurrency. We believe that this topic can easily be assimilated by beginning programmers so that they can start using them in CS1 and CS2 assignments/projects. Students exposed to multithreaded style programming early on will be better prepared to handle projects in advanced courses such as operating systems, databases, software engineering, graphics, and networking.
