Mathematics in Photography

One look at the markings on an adjustable camera demonstrates that photography depends heavily on mathematics. On such a camera are marked f-stops, shutter speeds, and distance and ASA scales. In the camera manual are exposure tables and depth-of-field charts. Packed with each roll of film are development times and temperatures. And in the literature are innumerable charts and graphs. In this paper I will attempt to explain some of the mathematics involved in photography.
