Software Model‐based Performance Analysis
Dorina Corina Petriu · 2013
Model-driven development (MDD) is an evolutionary step in the software field that is changing the focus of software development from code to models. The emphasis on models facilitates the analysis of non-functional properties (NFP), such as performance, scalability, reliability, security, safety, etc. of the software under development based on its model. This chapter focuses on performance analysis. A performance model is an abstract representation of a real system that captures its performance properties - mostly related to the quantitative use of resources during runtime behaviour - and is capable of reproducing its performance. The chapter mainly focuses on queuing network (QN) and layered queuing network (LQN). It explains the mapping concepts from software to performance models using a direct transformation from annotated UML to LQN, and discusses another possible transformation approach using a pivot language.
