Vendor-based network engineering: an evaluation

Approximately one third of Australian university, offer network-engineering education based on vendor accreditation programmes. The two dominant vendors are Microsoft and Cisco, There are certainly advantages to this approach that include: International recognition of awards, prepared course material, student demand, etc. However, there are also advantages that include: Ownership of curriculum, vendor specificity, training or education, etc, Both Cisco and Microsoft minors are available at Edith Cowan University (ECU), Perth, Australia. Based on experience to date this paper recommends vendor~based curriculum as a value added, rather than substitution of, standard university curriculum.
