Self-organizing fuzzy logic control of multivariable systems with an adaptive fuzzy logic compensator

Decoupled control is an effective tool to avoid the rule explosion in multivariable fuzzy logic control systems. There are two major parts in a general decoupled control system: one is the dominating controller applied to fulfill the tracking task of the major input/output loop, and the other is the compensator used to counteract the interactions between channels. In this paper, a new self-organizing fuzzy logic control algorithm with a dynamic Performance Index table is employed as the dominating controller. For the residual interactions between control loops, an adaptive fuzzy logic compensator is proposed to provide a compensation, which attenuates/amplifies the interaction effects given the tracking requirement of the main channel. A series of simulations are carried-out on a two-input and two-output biomedical process, with the conclusion that the proposed decoupled control mechanism makes the system response quickly with the ability to deal with the variable system dynamics, noise and the inaccurate estimate of the compensator gains effectively.
