Motion based adaptive media playout for real time video over relative differentiated quality of service

Z.G. Li, X. Lin · 2005

This paper proposes a motion based adaptive media playout (AMP) for video over the Internet with relative differentiated quality of service. Our scheme is based on the fact that human eyes are more sensitive to high motion videos. The concept of perceived motion energy is adopted to distinguish video motion. Different upper and lower bounds are derived for video with different motions. They are used to bound the actual playout rate, which is computed using control theory by taking both the trend of buffer occupancy variation and the difference between the buffer occupancy and a predefined threshold into consideration. The final visual quality is improved by our scheme.
