Technological Countermeasures for Remote Access
Dominique Assing, Stéphane Calé · 2013
The chapter on technological countermeasures for remote access first discusses the basis of all mobility tools: remote connection solutions. Next, it describes the development of specific tools to allow remote connections, or the adaptation of existing solutions. Remote connection solutions discussed are historic solutions, desktop sharing solutions, publication on the Internet, and virtual private network (VPN) solutions. Then, the chapter presents the implementation of specific access controls such as identification and authentication, and unique authentication, which are more stringent than those generally in place within the organization's LAN. Finally, the chapter gives the definition of architectures adapted to provide the services required while addressing the risks specific to mobile access. In addition, it includes control of conformity of the VPN infrastructure and control of network admission.
