THREE-SEGMENT AGENT ARCHITECTURE USING JINI FOR WORKFLOW

Lisa A. Schaefer, Gary Graf · 2001

INTRODUCTION We created a distributed software to implement a workflow management system that system automates the routine office functions of passing information and acting on information. The system was designed to create, use, and display the information necessary to model an industrial workflow process. The first stage of the development was to create an agent architecture to ensure all developers understood and agreed upon the interoperability of each 1 This work was performed while the author was at Arizona State University. component. The architecture has three major components: 1. A Process Components to handle serverrelated tasks and act as the workflow engine to manipulate the data associated with the workflow processes and activities. 2. A Workflow Definer to provide the client a GUI to assemble activities into processes or sub-processes, and establish the relationships and baseline data for those activities. 3. A Worklist Manager to provide the c
