Wireless networks are primarily designed for voice and data communications. The widespread availability of wireless nodes, however, makes it possible to utilize these networks for wireless location purposes as well. It is expected that location-based applications will play an important role in future wireless markets. This paper focuses on the map matching scheme for mobile users navigation when they are driving along roads. Because of the inaccuracy of the mobile location system and complexity of the geographic environment at crossings, the mobile users' location cannot be displayed on electronic map. Therefore, a new map matching scheme basing on rough set theory is proposed for mobile location system. This paper describes the proposed scheme and gives the performances of this scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can match the right road for mobile users effectively.
