Various Kinds of Actuators and Signal Interfaces

Shinichi Naito · Encyclopedia of Automotive Engineering · 2014

Abstract Advances in technology are increasing the variety and sophistication of a wide range of actuators used in vehicles. The main types of actuators are motors, solenoids, and relays that use electromagnetic force and piezoactuators that use the piezoelectric effect. This chapter describes these actuators and examples of their application, focusing on motors. It also briefly outlines signal interfaces, which play an important role in the use of all types of actuators.
