Infinite‐State SPNs
Boudewijn R. H. M. Haverkort · 2001
A new class of stochastic Petri net is introduced, infinite-state stochastic Petri nets, of which it is shown that the underlying Markov chain is infinitely large but has a quasi-birth-death structure, and hence, can be solved with matrix-geometric methods. The derivation of the underlying quasi-birth-death process is discussed and numerical examples are presented for models of connection management, models of servers subject to breakdown, checkpointing and recovery and models with delayed service.
