This paper describes circuitry for studying the inertia of photodiodes in the response time range 10 nsec-1 ..mu..sec and in the spectral range 1-15 um, using light modulation based on the piezooptical effect in GaAs; the measurement technique consists of determining the phase difference between signals from the detector studied and a photomultiplier. The method described was used to study several high-speed photodiodes in the IR range. The technique can also be used to select an operating mode and preamplifier to provide specified values.
