Fundamentals of Wavelet Transform

A brief introduction to wavelet transform and wavelet packet transform is given in this Chapter. The wavelet transform has been demonstrated to be fast in computation with the localizing properties in both times and frequencies. As a framework for construction of wavelet function, Multiresolution Signal Decomposition is introduced. Several typical wavelet functions, such as B-spline wavelets, Daubechies wavelets and Coiflet wavelets, are given. Then the fast wavelet algorithm as well as packet algorithm is presented and demonstrated by an example. Finally, the extension to 2-D fast wavelet algorithm is described.
