Object-oriented systems implementation: a model-equivalent approach

Stephen W. Liddle · 1996

The primary result of this dissertation is an active, object-oriented, model-equivalent programming language called Melody. Melody is seamlessly integrated with a powerful object-oriented software model, OSM, and supports the development of large-scale, advanced applications. Melody has multiparadigm programming features, including a combination of textual and graphical representation techniques, and various aspects of declarative and imperative computation styles. Melody overcomes many of the integration problems that exist in current state-of-the-art models, tools, and techniques for large-scale development of advanced applications. By taking a conceptual approach, Melody is able to resolve or side-step many integration problems. This dissertation describes the language Melody and some of the advances in models and languages that we have made during the design of Melody.
